Racial Uprisings Lab The Racial Uprisings Lab was created by Jamein Cunningham and I in the Spring of 2016 thanks to funding from the University of Victoria Internal Research/Creative Project Grant. The lab's work and scale has expanded since receiving support from a SSHRC Insight Development Grant in 2017. The lab is working to create a new database of all racialized uprisings in the United States post-1991 with a particular emphasis on the Black Lives Matter movement. It follows in the tradition of a previous data creation project from by Susan Olzak and Elizabeth West (1995), which collected similar data from the early 1950s until 1991.
